What is solution-focused hypnotherapy?

Combining ‘talking therapy’ and gentle hypnosis, solution-focused hypnotherapy helps people resolve key issues in their lives by considering the present and the future in a positive way. Sessions therefore focus on what you want to achieve in your life (the solution), rather than the reason for seeking help (the problem).

Very different from what you might see on a stage, the hypnosis in solution-focused hypnotherapy simply involves relaxing the mind and entering into a gentle trance or daydream-like state. This allows you to alter your conscious awareness, letting your subconscious come to the fore so you become more receptive for you to find positive solutions. You remain in control at all times throughout the process and will be guided by your therapist.

Hypnotherapy sessions: What to expect

Initial consultation: During the initial consultation, Kathleen will ask you two key questions: ‘How can I help you?’ and ‘If our sessions are a success, what would you have achieved?’

From here, she will then provide an overview of how the brain works and explain how, by changing the way we think and approach our lives, we can take back control and effect positive change. She will discuss goal-setting with you and help you to identify what you want from life and how hypnotherapy can help you achieve that.

As the sessions focus on the present and the future, they won’t delve into your past but will instead help you to move forward and see a brighter life ahead. Subsequent sessions will build on helping you to identify solutions to your specific problems, using the unique combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis.

  • Sessions can be delivered online or in-person and each one lasts for one hour.
  • Smoking cessation is set at one session. Phobia work is set at four weeks. Otherwise, sessions can take place over the course of four or more weeks, depending on the individual.
